Whiteboard - the practical writing boards for office & home

Whiteboards are used in many offices, conferences, workshops and internal meetings. They can be used to collect and sketch ideas, support presentations and make different types of content visible. Depending on the design, whiteboards are also available with magnetic surfaces, allowing suitable moderation cards or notes to be attached with magnets. Do you want to illustrate complex processes and work on them together with your team? A whiteboard can support the visualisation and structuring of content. Moderation cards, magnets and whiteboard markers can, for example, be used to show relationships between ideas and topics. Depending on the surface and marker used, the writing can then be removed with a suitable board eraser. A whiteboard can therefore support collaborative visualisation and work within a team. MAUL offers different whiteboards for various requirements and price ranges.
Whiteboards – practical writing boards for the office & home
Visual aids can support lectures and presentations. Whiteboards are used for a variety of presentation and organisational tasks. Depending on the design, they can be written on, drawn on or used with notes and magnets. Certain whiteboards may also be suitable as projection surfaces depending on their surface finish. Use them to record ideas, note important information or visualise work processes. When selecting a whiteboard, the intended use, surface, size and equipment should be considered. Whiteboards are available in different materials, designs and price ranges.
What is a whiteboard?
A whiteboard consists of a smooth writing surface that, depending on the model, is surrounded by a frame. The surface can be written or drawn on using suitable whiteboard markers. Different marker colours can be used to visualise different types of content. With suitable markers and surfaces, the writing can be removed dry. Many whiteboards also have a magnetic surface. On these models, suitable magnets can be used to attach notes, pictures or other lightweight materials. Such whiteboards are therefore also referred to as magnetic boards.
Whiteboards are available as freestanding or wall-mounted models. A commonly available version is the wall-mounted whiteboard. Wall-mounted models do not require additional floor space. Many whiteboard models have magnetic surfaces. Writable models can be used with the non-permanent markers specified for the respective surface. Whiteboards differ from flipcharts in particular because flipcharts also use paper. Written flipchart sheets can be retained and reused, while whiteboards can be written on repeatedly depending on the surface. Unlike paper-based presentation tools, the board itself does not require paper for repeated writing. Wall-mounting materials are included depending on the product.
Whiteboard surfaces for different applications
Whiteboards are used in many environments, including offices, educational institutions and homes. Depending on the design, they offer different ways of working: they can be written on with suitable non-permanent markers, used with magnets if the surface is magnetic, or used as a presentation surface. Accessories such as marker holders or board erasers can complement their use. If you are looking for a whiteboard for different applications, various models and surfaces are available. Depending on the surface, the whiteboard can be repeatedly written on and cleaned using suitable markers and cleaning methods. Whiteboards are available both for permanent wall mounting and as mobile versions. They can be used, for example, in conference rooms, classrooms or home offices. We offer different models for various requirements.
What is a whiteboard used for?
Whiteboards can be used for different organisational and presentation tasks. They are used alongside traditional boards in many schools and universities. Erasable markers provide a different writing method from traditional chalk. In seminar rooms, whiteboards, like flipcharts, can be used for lectures, meetings and workshops. Whiteboards can also be used in offices or private settings for organisation and visualisation. In working environments, for example, work processes or appointments can be displayed. Depending on the model, a whiteboard can also be used at home for drawings, notes, shopping lists or appointments. On magnetic versions, content can additionally be attached using magnets.
What are the differences between the materials?
When choosing a whiteboard, users often consider the differences between surfaces made from enamelled steel, lacquered steel, melamine, plastic or glass. Whiteboards are available in different designs. Depending on the model, the frame may, for example, be made of aluminium, while the writing surfaces can consist of different materials. Traditional chalkboards are also still in use. Unlike chalk, whiteboard markers do not produce chalk dust.
Whiteboards are available with plastic, melamine, lacquered or enamelled surfaces, among others. The resistance of a plastic or melamine surface depends on material quality, use and care. With frequent use, some surfaces may develop signs of wear or streaking. Depending on the design, such models can be suitable, for example, for private use or less intensive applications.
For frequent or professional use, factors such as material, surface quality and manufacturer specifications may be particularly relevant. Whiteboards with lacquered or enamelled steel surfaces differ in their material properties. The appearance of marker writing can vary depending on the surface material. Depending on the design, enamelled surfaces may offer increased scratch resistance and durability. Certain lacquered or enamelled models may also be suitable for projection depending on the surface. Depending on the design, these whiteboards may be suitable for regular use in professional environments.
Whiteboards with glass surfaces are also available. Depending on the design, glass surfaces can offer a high level of resistance and are dimensionally stable. Certain glass surfaces may also provide increased scratch resistance. The appearance of marker colours and the cleaning process depend on the respective surface characteristics and care instructions. Depending on their design and equipment, glass whiteboards may differ in price from other whiteboard types.
What accessories are available for whiteboards?
Whiteboards are available in different designs and can be complemented with various accessories. Suitable accessories can support the use of the whiteboard. These include, for example, storage trays. Depending on the model, they provide space for several markers, a board eraser or other suitable accessories. Markers are also available in different colours and designs. Suitable magnets can additionally be used on magnetic boards to attach notes or information.
Magnetic boards for visual work
A magnetic board can be a practical solution for visually presenting ideas. On magnetic surfaces, suitable materials can be attached with magnets without using adhesive tape or pins. On appropriately equipped models, writing and magnetic attachment can be combined: write directly on the surface with a suitable marker or attach notes, plans and visualisations using magnets. Magnetic whiteboards are used in offices, team meetings, project work and private planning, among other applications. Wall-mounted models do not require additional floor space and, depending on the surface, can be repeatedly written on and redesigned. Choose a magnetic board whose size, surface and equipment suit your intended use.
Buying a whiteboard – what should you consider?
Whether for presentations or everyday scheduling, various criteria can be relevant when choosing a whiteboard.
Size
The size of the board is an important selection criterion depending on its intended use and location. Whiteboards are available in different sizes, including, for example, 90 x 120 cm. Smaller models may be suitable for private use, workstations or smaller rooms, while larger versions can be used, for example, in conference or training rooms. A wall-mounted board can be useful if no additional floor space is required.
Mounting
The intended installation should be considered when selecting a whiteboard. Depending on the size and model, whiteboards may be wall-mounted, mobile or freestanding. Depending on the manufacturer and product, mounting materials may already be included. Certain models can be installed in portrait or landscape orientation. For wall mounting, use fixing materials suitable for both the wall type and the product.
Material
The material of the board can influence its use and care. For frequent use, factors such as material, surface finish and construction may be particularly relevant. Please refer to the respective information on material, surface, care and intended use.
Cleaning whiteboards
The appropriate care depends on the respective surface material. Use the markers and cleaning products recommended by the manufacturer for the specific surface. Depending on the surface, writing can be removed with a suitable dry board eraser. Prompt removal of writing may help reduce residue on some surfaces. With suitable markers, writing can generally be removed depending on the surface. Only use cleaning products that are explicitly suitable for the respective surface material. For plastic, melamine, steel, enamel or glass surfaces, follow the relevant cleaning and care instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Can permanent marker be removed from a whiteboard?
Permanent marker may occasionally be used on a whiteboard surface by mistake. Whether and how such markings can be removed depends on the surface and marker used. For some surfaces, manufacturers recommend specific methods or dedicated whiteboard cleaners. On certain surfaces, writing over the permanent marker with a suitable erasable whiteboard marker and then wiping it off may help reduce residue. Always check the relevant care instructions before using this method.
For stubborn residue, only use cleaning products that are explicitly approved for the respective whiteboard surface. Repeated cleaning should only be carried out if this is suitable according to the care instructions. Abrasive or aggressive cleaners may damage some surfaces and should only be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
